The Uganda Police Force has detained four officers following widespread outrage over a viral video showing a woman being dragged through mud during an arrest.
The incident has sparked national condemnation and is under investigation for violating professional standards within the police force.
The officers involved in the incident have been identified as ASP Andrew Betunga, Detective Constable Darious Aharizira, Detective Constable Hope Nsasirwe, and Detective Constable Loyce Kiboneka. They are currently detained in Mbarara.
It is alleged that the female victim resisted attempts to evict her from her land after rejecting financial offers from several individuals.
The video, filmed in Lubiri cell, Mbarara City, has reignited calls for police reform and accountability. Human rights activists have highlighted this case as part of a broader pattern of excessive force and misconduct within the police force.
