Tragedy struck when a teenager was attacked by a crocodile while herding goats. The incident involved a Grade 13 year pupil from Takwa Primary School who had recently completed his Primary School Education exam. He was accompanied by his 11-year-old cousin when the attack occurred.
The crocodile attacked suddenly, dragging the boy into the river. Alarmed villagers launched a search operation the following day to locate him. In retaliation, residents of Bulesa village hunted and killed two adult crocodiles in the section of the river where the attack happened.
Upon dissecting one of the crocodiles, human remains, including a head and other body parts believed to belong to the boy, were found. Police and wildlife authorities from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) visited the scene to investigate. The recovered remains were taken to Merti Sub-County Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
