Five people lost their lives after a collision involving two boda boda motorcycles in Kayunga District on Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred around 3 p.m. in Namagabi village along the Kayunga-Busaana road.
Three individuals died instantly, while three others were critically injured and rushed to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital. Tragically, two of the hospitalized victims succumbed to their injuries a few hours later.
The deceased were residents of Nyondo village in Busaana sub-county, Kayunga District. They were traveling to Kangulumira Sub County to attend a burial ceremony when the accident occurred. One of the motorcycles was joining the main road with two passengers when it collided with another motorcycle carrying four people, traveling at high speed from Busaana.
Among the deceased, two were brothers. Traffic officers attributed the crash to speeding. Police officers arrived at the scene on foot an hour later, which angered onlookers. A truck from Kayunga town council eventually arrived to transport the bodies to Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
The wreckage of the motorcycles was taken to Kayunga Police Station.
