The Police in Uganda’s eastern district of Kalaki are investigating the death of a Soroti University lecturer whose body was found on the roadside on Friday (January 17).
The Police did not immediately identify who the deceased man was — until later when it emerged he was Dr Wilfred Olila.
His body was discovered dumped along the Otuboi-Abalanga Road in Ogolai village, Kaberpila parish, Ogwolo sub-county in the evening.
Police said Olila wore a blue T-shirt of Uganda Medical Association, a grey of trousers, black belt and black socks.
Kyoga East regional Police commander Damalie Nachuha told New Vision that his hands and legs were tied with ropes. Police also found his face bloodied and with a blood-stained bandage wrapped around the head.
No identification documents were found at the scene.
But later, Dr. Andrew Mark Muyanga, who leads the publicity and mobilization at Uganda Medical Association, confirmed to New Vision that the deceased was their member.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our cherished senior colleague, Dr Wilfred Olila,” he said in a statement.
“Dr Olila was brutalized and left for dead. His lifeless body was discovered by the Otuboi Police, left by the roadside, with a UMA T-shirt serving as the only identifier.”
