Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke addressed the issue, stating that Ebwang, who previously served as DPC in Wandegeya, Nsangi, and Buyende, left Uganda for Australia without following proper procedures.
“There are photos of a former police officer named Samuel Ebwang. According to the photo and the wording attached to it, he either converted himself or someone converted him into a woman,” Rusoke said.
The police spokesperson revealed that Ebwang did not formally resign before leaving the country.
“When he was last in Uganda, he was male. With certainty, I can confirm that he deserted because he did not submit his resignation letter nor apply to leave the police force. He is a deserter,” Rusoke added.
Ebwang’s transformation and recent photos have ignited widespread discussion on social media, with mixed reactions from the public.
However, police officials have focused solely on his status within the force, noting that desertion is a serious offense under Uganda’s laws.
According to police regulations, officers must formally resign or apply for discharge before leaving service.
Failure to do so is considered desertion, which can lead to legal consequences if the individual returns to Uganda.
