Ugandan singer Priscilla Zawedde, popularly known as Azawi, has urged President Yoweri Museveni to adopt a more relaxed lifestyle, suggesting that it could benefit his longevity and connection with the youth.
Azawi compared Museveni to Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who is known for attending sports events and music concerts. She noted that Kagame’s participation in such activities strengthens his bond with the younger generation.
“I have seen President Kagame attend sports games, concerts, etc., which connects him to the youth even more, but our man dem is too serious with life and leadership,” Azawi posted on X (formerly Twitter).
She further expressed concerns that Museveni’s approach to leadership might take a toll on his well-being. “I believe that shit can shorten your life, man. He needs to loosen up. He needs to pick a leaf from Kagame,” she added.
Museveni is rarely seen at entertainment events, with notable exceptions being Bebe Cool’s “Golden Heart” concert at Kololo Independence Grounds in 2018 and Catherine Kusasira’s concert at Serena Hotel in 2019. Since then, he has made few appearances at such gatherings.
In contrast, Kagame has actively engaged in both sports and music events. Just last night, he and First Lady Jeannette Kagame attended the Move Afrika Concert, which featured EGOT-winning artist John Legend, alongside thousands of music fans. Kagame has also participated in various sports activities in Rwanda.
Azawi’s remarks have sparked discussions among Ugandans, with some agreeing that the President should engage more with youth-centered events, while others argue that his leadership style does not require social outings.
