On the morning of Saturday, March 1, 2025, the Ashanti Region was struck by grim news: a mother in her late thirties and her two-year-old daughter were found dead in a bush near Akrokerri. The discovery sent shockwaves through the community.
According to a police report, Akrokerri Fie Assemblyman Andy Mensah Kyeremeh and Odumasi Electoral Area Unit Committee Chairman Owusu Michael were alerted to the tragedy around 8:20 a.m. They rushed to the site and immediately notified the Akrokerri police station.
A swift response came from law enforcement, led by ASP Duke Amoo, the District Crime Officer. His team, including Chief Inspector Isaac Nyamekye, Detective Inspector George Sefah, and Detective Corporal Evans Marfo, arrived at the scene to investigate. There, they found the bodies of the mother and child lying face-up, approximately 30 meters apart.
A closer inspection revealed chilling details. Blood clots and a severed dreadlock were located 20 meters from the bodies, suggesting a violent struggle had taken place. Nearby, just five meters from the bloodstains, investigators discovered a live BB cartridge. Marks of assault on the victims’ bodies further fueled suspicions of foul play.
The remains were transported to the Obuasi/Dadwen OD mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy. Detective Inspector George Sefah assured that all necessary documentation would be submitted to the District Coroner for further proceedings.
Police have pledged to broadcast appeals for information on local FM stations to encourage public assistance in the investigation. “We’ll provide updates as the case progresses,” they announced, urging anyone with details to step forward.
The community remains on edge as authorities work to unravel the circumstances behind this haunting double death.
