A domestic dispute in Luwero District turned deadly when a woman allegedly stabbed her husband to death in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 6, 2025. The incident took place in Namawojja Village, Nambi Parish, Zirobwe Subcounty, raising further concerns about violent crime in the area.
The victim, 29-year-old peasant farmer Godfrey Kamoga, was reportedly stabbed by his wife, Mbabazi Shakira, inside their home. According to ASP Twiineamazima Sam, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, the stabbing occurred around midnight, and Kamoga died at the scene.
Police responded promptly, visiting the location to gather evidence and interview witnesses. Kamoga’s body was taken to Luwero Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, while Shakira was arrested and is currently in custody for further questioning.
This event adds to Luwero District’s troubling homicide statistics. The Uganda Police Force’s Annual Crime Report 2024 shows a 4.1 percent decrease in reported crimes nationwide, dropping from 228,074 cases in 2023 to 218,715 in 2024. Despite this national decline, Luwero remains a region with persistently high crime rates.
In 2024, the district recorded 3,374 crimes, a slight reduction from the 4,111 cases reported in 2023, when Luwero had the second-highest crime rate in the country. Homicide figures remain particularly alarming, with 86 murders in 2024, making Luwero the second deadliest district nationwide, following 90 homicides in 2023.
To address the ongoing crime challenges, the Uganda Police Force has introduced the Sub-county Policing Model. This initiative seeks to decentralize law enforcement and strengthen crime prevention efforts at the local level.
