Retired Police Officer Arrested for Killing Wife in Kasese

Authorities in Bwera Division, Rwenzori East, have detained a 65-year-old retired police officer, Sipriano Kyakwire, on suspicion of murdering his 48-year-old wife, Masika Night Kihimba, in Kakone I Village, Bwera Sub-county.

The tragic event took place on Monday, March 17, 2025, around 1:30 PM after a heated domestic argument. It is alleged that Kyakwire used a knife to fatally stab Masika during the confrontation.

Police reports indicate that Masika had recently visited relatives in Mughnese Cell, Nsenyi Ward, Kisinga Town Council. Upon her return, she encountered Kyakwire in their shared home and began gathering her possessions with the intent to depart.

When Kyakwire understood her determination to leave, he reportedly secured all exits, seized a sharp blade, and inflicted a lethal stab wound to her abdomen.

SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Region Police Spokesperson, stated that Bwera Division police were quickly notified, apprehended the suspect, and preserved the crime scene.

The investigation continues to determine the precise reasons for the killing.
