Police in Kamuli District have arrested 21-year-old Zainab Mulungi, suspected of murdering her one-year-old daughter, Hadija Kabawo, and burying her in secret. The incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday, March 9, in Nalinaibi village. Suspicion arose among neighbors and relatives after the child had not been seen for two days.
Initially, Mulungi said she had taken her daughter to the hospital and intended to visit her there. However, she left home on Tuesday and did not return until Saturday, which heightened concerns. Busoga North police spokesperson Michael Kasadha stated that a significant development occurred on Friday, March 14, 2025.
At approximately 9:00 p.m., family members noticed a foul odor near the residence. After searching, they found a shallow grave and informed the local chairperson. Further inspection confirmed it was the burial site of the missing child, leading them to contact the police immediately.
Detectives exhumed the body and took it to Kamuli General Hospital for a postmortem. The investigation uncovered that the suspect’s husband, Asuman Kabawo, was at his other residence in Mbulamuti during the incident. Authorities are still examining the case to uncover all details of what happened.
