UPDF Officer Dies on Spot After Hitting A Tree With Police Vehicle

Police in Gulu are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on March 30, 2025, at Te-Dam village in Bardege, along Airfield Road.

The accident claimed the lives of Olinde John, who was driving, and his passenger, Oluka Dan, aged 28. According to preliminary findings, the vehicle had been left with its key in the ignition for warming. Olinde reportedly took the vehicle and was driving at high speed from Gulu City towards Gen. Saleh’s residence.

He lost control of the car, swerved to the right, climbed onto the roadside, and crashed into a palm tree. The impact was so severe that the vehicle split into two. Olinde died on the spot, while Oluka sustained injuries.

The wreckage was towed and is currently parked at Gulu City Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). The body of the deceased was taken to the 4th Division mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
