Frank Gashumba, Vice Chairman of PLU Central Region, recently alleged that Kampala District Woman MP, Hon. Shamim Malende, traveled to Kenya not only for medical treatment but also to give birth. Gashumba shared these remarks with the media, extending his well-wishes to Malende.
Hon. Malende had been hospitalized in Uganda for several months following injuries sustained during a clash between opposition politicians and security forces in Parliament. Due to her deteriorating health, medical professionals decided to transfer her to a Kenyan hospital for advanced care. Sources indicate she underwent surgery in Kenya, though specific details remain undisclosed.
The news of Malende’s condition has prompted an outpouring of support on social media, with many Ugandans sending messages of encouragement and prayers for her swift recovery.
National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, visited Malende during her hospitalization in Uganda. He used the visit to criticize President Yoweri Museveni’s administration, accusing it of targeting opposition figures to suppress dissent ahead of the 2026 presidential elections.
Gashumba’s claim about Malende giving birth has sparked varied reactions. Some Ugandans have called for Malende to clarify the statement, while others argue she deserves privacy during her recovery. As of now, Hon. Malende has not publicly addressed Gashumba’s comments.
A prominent figure in Uganda’s opposition, Malende is admired for her bold stance against government injustices. Her supporters continue to rally behind her, wishing for her strength and full recovery.
