“Please Don’t Open the Room, I’ll Be Back”- Mystery as Woman is Found Dead in Lira Guest House

Police in Lira City are investigating the mysterious death of a woman who was found dead inside a guest house on April 30, 2025.

The incident happened at Providence Guest House located in Campswahili Cell, Lira City East Division.

According to the police, the woman checked into the guest house with a man identified as Walter Oyuku at around 8:30 p.m. on April 29.

Oyuku reportedly returned to the lodge later that night on a motorcycle, accompanied by the woman, and carrying a sack and a handbag.

Guest house staff told police that Oyuku left the room at around 4:00 a.m. the following morning.

Before leaving, he paid for another night and asked the staff not to disturb the room because he would return later. However, he never came back.

After some time, workers at the guest house noticed a bad smell coming from the room.

When they opened the door, they found the woman’s lifeless body. They quickly alerted the police.

Lira City East Division Police responded to the scene and began investigations.

Initial findings suggest that the woman may have been sexually assaulted and strangled.

Police believe she could have been murdered and robbed.

Items found in the room indicate that she might have been a fish trader, as there were containers commonly used to transport smoked fish.

Authorities are treating the case as a possible planned crime.

They suspect that the woman was lured into a fake relationship and then killed.

Police are now looking for Oyuku, who is believed to be the main suspect in the case.

This is not the first time such an incident has happened in Uganda.

Similar cases have been reported in other areas like Kamuli and Mbale, where women were found dead in guest houses under unclear circumstances.

Police have appealed to the public for help in identifying the woman and locating the suspect.

They are asking anyone with useful information to come forward.

This tragic incident has caused fear and anger among residents, who are calling for stronger security measures and better screening of guest house visitors.

Investigations are still ongoing, and the police have promised to give more updates as they gather more evidence.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
