A Ugandan police officer has been badly injured after a serious accident involving a vehicle that reportedly knocked him down during a traffic-related situation.
The incident, which has since gone viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), captured the heartbreaking moment the officer lay on the ground, clearly in pain, as he pleaded for help.
In the video, the officer is seen sprawled along the roadside, his voice weak as he repeatedly calls out for assistance.
Onlookers, including some of his fellow police officers and concerned citizens, can be seen trying to handle the situation with caution. Some appeared overwhelmed by the extent of the injuries, while others attempted to comfort the wounded officer and assess how best to move him without causing further harm.
The vehicle believed to have hit the officer was shown in a heavily damaged state. The front bumper had been smashed, and one of the headlights was completely destroyed, suggesting a strong impact during the collision.
The exact cause of the accident is still unknown, but many viewers who watched the footage online have raised concerns about road safety and how officers on duty are protected from harm in traffic situations.
Members of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) were also seen at the scene, providing additional support. Their presence helped in managing the crowd and assisting the police in taking care of the injured officer until medical personnel could arrive.
So far, police authorities have not released an official statement regarding the identity of the officer or his current medical condition. However, the video has triggered a public outpouring of concern and support, with many Ugandans calling for better protective measures for officers who work on the roads.
The incident has sparked a conversation online about how traffic-related duties often place police officers at risk, especially in high-speed or congested areas.
Many users on X are demanding that the government and police leadership look into stronger protective protocols and provide the necessary equipment to ensure their safety.
