Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson

Katwe Police are currently holding five suspects in connection with an ongoing investigation into a murder that was registered today, 9th October 2024, in Israel-Matovu Zone, Makindye II Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District.

It is alleged that Megade Tonny, a boda boda rider stationed at Nakibuka stage in Israel Matovu Zone, was heading home with his wife, Namubiru Jane.

After parking their motorcycle and beginning their walk home, they were ambushed by eight thugs, who proceeded to stab him. Namubiru raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of neighbors.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a phone and some cash were stolen from the deceased before the attackers fled the scene.

Following the murder, police arrested five suspects. One of the suspects denied involvement and sought the intervention of the Local Council Chairman for Katale zone Makindye , one Mr Kyagombwa sowed .

However, upon learning of the arrest and the suspect’s communication with the chairman , some locals, angered by the murder of their boda boda colleague, wrongly assumed that the chairman was involved. They took matters into their own hands and set the office of the LC1 chairman for katale zone Makindye on fire.

Police responded swiftly, rescued the chairman , and extinguished the fire before it could cause significant damage. We urge the public to remain calm as investigations into the motive behind the murder and the involvement of all individuals continue.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire Deputy Public Relations officer for Kampala Metropolitan Policerevealed that the body of the deceased has been conveyed to the City Mortuary, Mulago, for postmortem examination.
