Six people have died and five others injured in an accident in Luwero district along Kampala – Gulu highway.
The accident which occurred at around 3:30pm involved a taxi registration number UBL 502Z and a fuso fighter truck number 052L .
The accident took place at Sinalya village near Kalule trading center in Luwero district.
Police has identified the dead as Rogers Mfitumukiza a resident of Gakoro village in Kisoro district, Charles Opirisa a resident of Banda ,Kampala City and Joshua Ebong.
Others are Ephraim Mugerwa a resident of Kawala Kasubi , Kampala City and the fifth person whose unidentified. All were travelling in taxi from Gulu heading to Kampala City.
According to Police Spokesperson Sam Twineamazima the accident occured after the driver of fuso fighter truck from Kampala heading Gulu knocked the taxi which was coming from the opposite direction while trying to overtake it.
Twineamazima also said that five passengers were injured.
Among the dead were the driver of the taxi whereas the driver of the truck was critically injured.
Police rushed to the scene and transferred the injured persons to Bombo General Military Hospital.
The bodies were transferred to Luwero hospital and the wreckage of the taxi also towed to Bombo Police station.
In September,2024 four people died and six others were critically injured in an accident in Luwero town council along the Kampala-Gulu highway.
The taxi which was heading to Kampala city from Gulu collided with a truck before it lost control and overturned in the trench along the highway.
According to the Luwero District health report, at least 1,050 people were admitted to health facilities in the financial year 2023/24 after sustaining injuries during accidents.
The victims sustained injuries to the legs, arms, chest, and other body parts.
