At least 63 people are confirmed dead and many more injured after two buses collided early Wednesday on the Kampala–Gulu highway in Kiryandongo District.
The crash happened at Asili Farm in Kitaleba village, where the two buses, a lorry and a Toyota Land Cruiser were involved.
According to police, a bus from Planet Company travelling from Adjumani to Kampala swerved into the wrong lane and collided head-on with a bus from Nile Star Company travelling from Kampala to Arua. The other vehicles then lost control, overturned and fell into a valley.
The injured have been taken to Kiryandongo General Hospital. The wrecked vehicles remain at the scene as investigations continue.
Authorities warn the death toll may rise because some of the injured are in critical condition.
