David Ofwono Apiauni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) publicity secretary for Tororo District, died this morning at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala. Close relatives and his wife, Evelyn Abbo, confirmed his passing.
He had been unwell for several months and was initially admitted to 3Levers Cancer Centre Hospital in Najjera before being referred to Nakasero Hospital when his condition worsened. Despite receiving treatment, he passed away at the age of 50 due to multiple organ failure.
Community members and colleagues described him as a bold, outspoken leader who strongly advocated for local interests in Tororo District. According to the Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Tororo, he was courageous, fearless, and addressed matters affecting residents with great passion.
A political commentator and former Rock Mambo Radio manager recalled their many in-depth debates with Ofwono, pointing out his sharp intellect and unwavering focus during discussions.
The youth chairperson of the NRM in Tororo similarly noted Ofwono’s dedication to the party and praised his enthusiastic approach toward mobilizing support within the district.
Ofwono’s remains are still in Kampala and have yet to be taken to his ancestral home in Kasipodo Village, Kayoro Sub-county, Tororo.
