UPDF Soldier Dies in Gen Muhanguzi’s Convoy Crash, Six Injured

A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier died, and six others were injured in a road accident involving the convoy of Major General Paul Muhanguzi, the 2nd Infantry Division Commander. The crash happened on Friday at 7:15 AM along the Masaka-Kampala Highway in Lukaya Town Council, Kalungu District.

The accident occurred when a speeding UPDF Land Cruiser attempted to overtake a trailer but collided with an oncoming Toyota Harrier. The impact caused the Land Cruiser to overturn multiple times, killing Lance Corporal Zubair Anyiko on the spot. The six injured soldiers were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, while the deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary.

Major General Muhanguzi’s vehicle was not involved in the crash, and police have launched an investigation. Southern Regional Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye urged road users to observe traffic rules to prevent such incidents.
