The age groups vary from the youth to the very aged ones. The next query is: In the 11th Parliament of Uganda, who is the youngest member of parliament?
The youngest MP at the moment is Hon. Auma Hellen Wandera, the Woman MP for the Busia District. She was born in December 1997 and currently 27 years old.
She was only 23 years old when she took power in 2021 following a fiercely contested election victory.
She received more than 18,182 votes in her election campaign, surpassing both Mrs. Nabwire (15,444) and Nakku (16,223). Yes, it was a really close contest.
Upon winning the elections, Hon. Hellen Auma praised the people of Busia for their votes and trust in her, promising to do her best in an interview with Workers TV Africa.
“In Busia district, since I was young, I’ve never seen the people vote for a young person at the age of 23 like me. It is really a surprise.” said Auma during the interview.
Auma pledged in the same interview to work tirelessly, day and night, to do wonders for the district.
According to Hon. Auma’s incident, young people being elected to Ugandan parliament seats is extremely uncommon.
Citizens above the age of thirty are typically the ones observed in those positions. However, Hon. Auma is undoubtedly one of the few who has overcome the obstacles to gain a seat in Parliament.
