The Kamuli Chief Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 35-year-old woman to 20 years in prison for attempted murder after being found guilty of cutting off her husband’s genitals.
According to court records, Kevina Nabirye, a mother of four, attacked Mathias Bwamiki, her husband of ten years, accusing him of infidelity and poor performance in their marriage. The incident occurred on February 18, 2025, at around 11 p.m. in their home in Buguwa village, Kamuli District.
During the court session on Wednesday, February 26, Chief Magistrate Paul Owino delivered the judgment after visiting Bwamiki, who remains hospitalized at Kamuli General Hospital. Nabirye pleaded guilty to the charges before her conviction.
While delivering the sentence, the magistrate emphasized that the punishment was intended to reform Nabirye’s character, encourage respect for life, and serve as a warning to potential offenders. He also informed her of the right to appeal the sentence within 14 days if she found it too harsh.
Bwamiki, who was found in severe pain at the hospital, refuted claims that he had forgiven his wife and instead urged the court to impose a strong deterrent sentence. He expressed concern for their children, stating that they were deeply traumatized by their mother’s actions and afraid to live with her or her relatives. He further requested that she remain in prison for a significant period.
