23-Year-Old Kawempe North Candidate Cries Out, Begs Voters to Raise Shs3M for His Nomination

Hamuzah Ddamulira, a 23-year-old student at Metropolitan International University, has appealed to voters in Kawempe North to contribute 3 million Ugandan shillings to support his parliamentary bid. Ddamulira, a resident of Chamber of the Central and a registered voter in the constituency, expressed frustration over the nomination process, citing financial constraints and missing documentation as major hurdles.

Speaking passionately about his aspirations, Ddamulira emphasized that leadership should not be determined by financial capacity but rather by the ability to bring positive change. He revealed that upon arriving for nomination, he was informed that he had not yet met all the required qualifications, including providing proof of payment for the nomination fee.

“I came ready for nomination, but to my surprise, I was told that I need to present the receipt for the payment of the nomination fee. Sincerely speaking, if you look at me, can I even afford one million? Now they are asking for three million,” he lamented.

Ddamulira argued that the high nomination fees prevent young, capable individuals from participating in leadership and vowed to push for an amendment in Parliament to lower the costs. He urged voters to focus on a candidate’s ability to bring development rather than their financial strength.

He also addressed concerns about his academic qualifications, asserting that he is a university student and must have met the necessary educational requirements to be there. While acknowledging the need to present his academic certificates, he assured supporters that his agent was working on retrieving them and remained confident that everything would be resolved before the nomination deadline.

“I am serious about this. I wouldn’t have come here if I wasn’t serious. By 5 PM, everything will be settled. I promise you,” he declared.

Ddamulira’s call for support highlights the financial struggles faced by young aspirants seeking political office and raises questions about the accessibility of leadership positions for ordinary citizens. As he awaits the final decision on his nomination, his determination to challenge the system remains unwavering.
