Two people lost their lives on Saturday when a light aircraft crashed and burst into flames in the Ikanga area of Taita Taveta County.
According to officials, the victims were a pilot and a trainee who were conducting a training session when the accident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. Witnesses and police reported that the aircraft went down suddenly, leading to the fatal crash.
Local residents and firefighters from nearby authorities rushed to the scene in an attempt to assist, but they were unable to save the victims. The wreckage was quickly engulfed in flames, making any rescue efforts impossible.
Incidents involving students and pilots are not uncommon, particularly in training flights. Many of these aircraft either take off from Wilson Airport in Nairobi or Mombasa before encountering difficulties.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the crash to determine the cause of the tragedy.
Meanwhile, villagers gathered at the crash site as authorities secured the area for further examination.
