A new controversy has surfaced in Uganda’s religious community, drawing sharp criticism and sparking online debate after a post on X by Gabriel Buule ( @GabrielBuule) highlighted the actions of the late Pastor Augustine Yiga’s son.
The post, shared on March 13, 2025, includes a video showing late Pastor Yiga’s son—selling what is described as “holy water” to followers, prompting accusations of exploiting “naive followers.”
The video, originally posted on TikTok, depicts a church setting with Pastor Andrew Jjengo standing at a podium, addressing an audience seated on red plastic chairs, while another individual walks nearby. The imagery and Buule’s accompanying caption—“The late pastor Yiga’s son is selling ‘holy water’ to his naive followers ”—have ignited a firestorm of reactions on social media, with users expressing a mix of disbelief, frustration, and sarcasm.
Pastor Augustine Yiga, the founder of Revival Christian Church in Kawaala, passed away in 2020, leaving behind a legacy marred by controversy.
Known for his evangelical fervor, Yiga faced numerous allegations during his lifetime, including sex scandals, rape accusations, and child neglect, as reported by Watchdog Uganda. His son, Pastor Andrew Jengo, took over leadership of the church following Yiga’s death.
The sale of “holy water”—a common practice in most born-again churches, where ‘blessed’ water is marketed as a conduit for healing or divine favor—has long been a lightning rod for debate. Critics argue it preys on vulnerable believers, turning faith into a transactional commodity.
