Omoro Man Found Hanging Dead in Church

A 27-year-old man from Barolam village in Lalogi Sub-County, Omoro District, has died in a suspected suicide inside the Yesu En Yoo Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) Church.

The body of Solomon Opio was discovered hanging inside the church in Omoro Town Council on March 24, 2025. His mother, Caroline Akello, found him while searching for her son after he had gone missing the previous evening.

Akello reported that Opio had been behaving unusually in the days leading up to his death. On March 22, he began showing signs of mental distress, claiming that armed individuals were following him and demanding he leave. Concerned, Akello tried to speak with him on March 23, but Opio fled their home later that night and sought shelter in the church, where he frequently prayed.

The next morning, Akello went to the church and tragically discovered her son’s lifeless body. She immediately alerted local authorities, who then informed Omoro Central Police Station (CPS).

Dr. Benjamin Wungala, a mental health specialist at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital, highlighted the challenges of accessing mental health support in rural communities, emphasizing the need for better resources and awareness.

Police are investigating the incident.
