Police in Rubanda District are investigating a shocking case in which a 16-year-old girl is suspected of killing her father after a family disagreement.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening in Mungaara village, Kyenyi Parish, Muko sub-county. The victim, 41-year-old Deusi Tukacungurwa, was found dead inside his home with deep cuts on his body.
His wife, Mary Tumuheise, told police that she had gone to work in the garden early in the morning and only returned home at around 8:30 p.m. When she entered the house, she was met with the devastating sight of her husband lying in a pool of blood. She immediately called for help, and neighbours rushed to the scene.
One of the younger children in the family, a seven-year-old girl, told neighbours what she had witnessed. She explained that her father had killed a rabbit belonging to the teenage suspect while she was grazing sheep nearby. When the teenager learned what had happened, she is said to have rushed back home, grabbed a machete, and attacked her father several times, killing him on the spot.
By the time neighbours arrived, the girl had already fled. Police were called, and the body of Tukacungurwa was taken for a postmortem examination.
Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, describing it as a very unfortunate and brutal act. He said investigations have begun and security teams are working to track down the suspect, who is still on the run.
The case has shocked residents of Mungaara village, with many still struggling to understand how a domestic disagreement over a rabbit could lead to such a tragic ending.
