The Uganda Police Force has announced the recruitment of 100,000 Election Special Police Constables to support security operations during the 2026 general elections.
According to a statement signed by AIGP Jesse Kamunanwire on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the constables will serve on a three-month contract, earning UGX 469,000 per month. Successful applicants will work in their respective districts of residence.
The recruitment exercise aims to strengthen security and ensure peaceful electoral activities across the country.
Applicants must be Ugandan citizens with a national ID, good conduct, and no criminal record. They should be 18 years or older, physically fit, and willing to work long hours, sometimes under challenging conditions. A Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) certificate is the minimum educational requirement.
Other requirements include being nationalistic and patriotic, possessing good communication skills, and being a registered voter in the area of recruitment. Applicants with a record of volunteer service with the Uganda Police Force will have an added advantage. Women are also encouraged to apply.
Interested candidates are required to submit handwritten applications addressed to the Inspector General of Police, accompanied by copies of academic documents, a national ID, a recent passport-size photograph, and recommendation letters from the LCI, LCIII, and GISO of their respective areas.
Applications should be delivered to District or Divisional Police Headquarters by November 1, 2025. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews on dates to be announced later.
The police have warned against impersonation and the use of forged documents, saying those caught will be arrested and prosecuted.
The recruited constables will undergo a one-month basic security training course before deployment. Their primary duty will be to assist in maintaining peace and order during the election period.
