The Ugandan music industry is mourning the death of fast-rising artist Olisha M, who passed away on Friday while giving birth at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala.

Olisha M, whose real name was Olivia Mildred Namubiru, had been admitted to the hospital for delivery but reportedly died during labor, according to close friends. News of her death spread on social media Friday evening, shocking fans and fellow musicians across the country.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed, and her family is expected to release an official statement soon.

Olisha M became popular with hit songs such as “Ebiwooma” featuring Kent & Flosso and “Gwenjagala.” Her mix of Afrobeat, R&B, and dancehall earned her a growing fan base and a reputation as one of Uganda’s most promising young female artists.

Social media has since been flooded with tributes from fans and fellow musicians. “This is heartbreaking. She was such a bright star,” one fan wrote on Facebook. Others described her as humble, talented, and full of potential.

It remains unclear whether the baby survived. Friends close to the family said funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Olisha M’s death has once again raised concerns about maternal health and the struggles many women in Uganda face during childbirth. Her passing is a huge loss to Uganda’s entertainment industry and has left many mourning a life and career that had only just begun to shine.
