Two men from Western Kenya have drawn public attention after participating in a rare cultural practice of wife swapping to resolve their marital problems.
Christopher Auma and Kevin Barraza, both middle-aged, made a mutual decision to exchange their wives after both women were found to have engaged in infidelity.
The arrangement came after Lilian Weta, Kevin’s wife, confronted him for bringing another woman—introduced as his cousin—into their home.
Kevin defended his actions by claiming emotional abandonment, saying he felt like a widower because Lilian had been taken by another man.
Seeking resolution, Lilian approached Christopher Auma, who proposed that they start living together instead.
Christopher reasoned that “those considered best by others should be together,” while the rest should also find peace with one another.
Surprisingly, both couples agreed to the exchange and have reportedly been living harmoniously for years.
The matter was reported to the local police, and both families, along with elders, sanctioned the arrangement on the condition that bridal possessions be returned.
The children from both families are aware of the new family structures and have adjusted to the changes.
When asked, all parties—including Kevin and Immaculate—expressed contentment with their new spouses and confirmed they have no intention of returning to their former partners.
