Four Bodies Retrieved from Nakivubo Channel After Kampala Floods

Police in Kampala have recovered four bodies from Nakivubo Channel following heavy rainfall that caused severe flooding across the city on Friday morning.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the deceased are believed to have been among the homeless men who often slept along the drainage channel.

“We have retrieved four bodies from Nakivubo Channel. We suspect that these were the boys who usually sleep in the area. Investigations are ongoing to establish their identities and the exact cause of death. The bodies have been taken to the City Mortuary,” Owoyesigyire said.

The morning downpour left parts of downtown Kampala submerged, disrupting transport and business operations. Many traders spent the day trying to salvage what remained of their goods after water flooded several arcades and stalls.

Police maintained a presence around the affected areas as they worked with local authorities to clear debris and monitor the water flow.

By the end of the day, identification of the four victims was still underway as police appealed to the public to help provide any information about missing persons who might have been caught in the floods.
