Police in Kampala Metropolitan East and North are investigating two separate incidents that have raised concern among residents: the disappearance of a 12-year-old girl and the discovery of a decomposed body in Kyampisi Subcounty. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm as inquiries continue.
The first case involves Aneza Merisa, a 12-year-old reported missing by her mother, Kamuganga Sarah, at Wandegeya Police Station on November 6, 2025. Details surrounding the child’s disappearance are still unclear, and police have launched a search to trace her whereabouts.
The second incident occurred in Namulaba Village, Kyampisi Subcounty, where a decomposed body was found in Musaale Swamp on November 10, 2025. The body was reportedly dressed in a navy-blue student skirt marked “Nanyonga VII,” suggesting the deceased may have been a schoolgirl. Police are still working to determine which school uses that uniform.
Because the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, mortuary staff in Kayunga buried it at a public cemetery. When news of the discovery reached the parents of the missing girl, they grew concerned that the remains could belong to their daughter. Investigators, however, emphasized that no identification has been made.
Police have now sought a court order to exhume the body so that forensic samples can be collected for DNA testing. The results will determine whether the remains are those of Aneza Merisa and are expected to provide clarity to both the family and the wider community.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, investigations are ongoing, and no confirmed connection exists between the missing child and the body recovered in Nagalama. Police continue to engage nearby schools and institutions in an effort to identify the deceased.
Residents of Kyampisi and neighboring areas have expressed worry following the grim discovery, raising concerns about children’s safety in the region. Authorities have reassured the public that both cases are being treated with urgency.
Police have also called on parents and guardians to remain vigilant, report missing children immediately, and share any suspicious information with authorities. Community cooperation, they say, will be vital in resolving the investigations.
Forensic teams will conduct all examinations in line with legal and scientific standards to ensure accurate identification. Further updates will be provided once DNA results are available or when new information emerges.
