The Catholic Diocese of Warri in Nigeria has suspended Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe from priestly duties following his secret marriage in the US.
According to sources within the Diocese, the revelation of Fr. Okanatotor’s clandestine union came as a shock to both the clergy and the faithful.
As we all know, the Catholic Church mandates celibacy as a fundamental vow for priests, which makes marriage a direct violation of canonical law.
In a formal statement, the Diocese of Warri expressed its disappointment over the incident and emphasized the importance of accountability and adherence to Church teachings.
“This unfortunate situation undermines the sacred trust placed in our clergy and the commitment they vow to uphold. As a result, Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe is hereby suspended from all priestly functions, effective immediately,” – A part of the statement read.
The Diocese further assured parishioners that it remains committed to transparency and integrity.
An internal investigation has been launched to uncover the full details surrounding the matter, including how the marriage was conducted and whether there were any breaches of ecclesiastical protocol before the discovery.
