Airtel Staff Shot Dead by Suspected Karamojong Warriors

Suspected Karamojong warriors ambushed and killed Stephen Lochu, an Airtel agent, on Monday, October 7, at Nakoreto Trading Centre in Kotido District. Lochu had traveled with other Airtel service providers to the area to sell phones, SIM cards, and airtime when armed assailants attacked them.

The attackers, armed with four rifles, caused chaos and fear among the locals. Residents of Nakoreto remain in shock, concerned about the deteriorating security situation in the area.

Following the incident, officers from Kotido Central Police Station were dispatched to the scene. However, attempts to track down the perpetrators using K-9 dogs were unsuccessful due to tampering at the crime scene, making it difficult for the dogs to trace the attackers.

Joint security forces, including police and military, are actively pursuing the suspects in areas such as Maru, Kacheri, and Lokomebu, with authorities strongly condemning the attack and reaffirming their commitment to restoring peace and safety in the region.

Lochu’s body was taken to Kotido General Hospital for a postmortem.
