Opposition kingpin Col Dr Kizza Besigye had a successful surgery this week in the United States.
The former four-time presidential candidate travelled to the US last week for the operation on his hand.
This was revealed by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who currently serves as President of Besigye’s FDC Katonga Road faction.
“Quite heartening news of a successful operation of Kizza Besigye right hand,” Lukwago announced last night.
The Lord Mayor further revealed that Besigye’s hand been “reeling with pernicious complications out of a rubber bullet wound sustained in the aftermath of the 2011 elections.”
Besigye was struck by rubber bullet on Thursday April 14th 2011 during a protest march in Kampala.
He was taking part in a “walk to work” protest against rising food and fuel prices when police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators.
Describing the moment, Besigye he “had a sharp pain and so this ring finger started bleeding.”
