In Uganda’s bustling political jungle, a new party, “People Power Front” (PPF), has sprung up like a mushroom after a rainy night, and it has everyone scratching their heads.Camouflage gear
The National Unity Platform (NUP) insists they have nothing to do with it, but some say NUP’s own Secretary General, Mr. David Lewis Lubongoya, and his friend and former NUP staff member, Mr. Spartan Mukagyi, might be behind the wheel. This hot political gossip has been making the rounds for weeks.
At a recent youth convention held at NUP headquarters in Kavule, Kampala Woman MP Hon. Shamim Malende laid it all out plain and simple. She announced to the public, “That new party, People Power Front (PPF), is not ours. We have nothing to do with it, so don’t let it confuse you.” Malende wasn’t just pointing fingers at the new party, but also gave the Electoral Commission a piece of her mind, saying they tried to register the people power movement but they were failed by the elctoral commission and resorted to use it as party’s slogan, approved by the electoral commission but to their surprise, the PPF is using the same slogan, and approved but the same electoral commission.
NUP’s President, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, is reportedly keeping a cool head, urging party leaders to focus on their work and ignore the “propaganda.” But this new PPF twist has got NUP supporters buzzing like bees.
Some party insiders claim there’s even a bit of tension at the top, with whispers that Kyagulanyi’s brother, Fred Nyanzi, could soon replace Lubongoya as Secretary General.
As the 2026 elections inch closer, voters are left wondering which “People Power” to follow. Many say top NUP leaders are cozying up to PPF and will make a grand reveal at the PPF launch, allegedly set for November 23rd at Kololo Independence Ground.
Until then, in the words of an old proverb, “You can’t tell the fish by looking at the pond.” It’s all eyes on Kololo to see which party will truly stand for the “People’s Power.”
