A 35-year-old boda-boda rider and crime preventer has died after being shot during a confrontation between police and a suspect in Kabira Village, Maanyi Sub County, Mityana District.
The victim, Sam Nangereka, was shot on Friday during an operation to apprehend Isaac Ssendawula, 40, who was accused of malicious damage to property and assault. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. when two police officers confronted the suspect, who resisted arrest. During the altercation, a gun discharged, hitting Nangereka in the right thigh.
The two police officers and Nangereka had arrived at the scene using his motorcycle, registration number UFD806X. The situation escalated as the suspect managed to seize a firearm from one of the officers during the scuffle, leading to the fatal shooting.
Nangereka was rushed to Maanyi Health Centre III for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities have now added a murder charge to the suspect’s record. He is currently detained at Mityana Police Station as investigations continue.
