Court of Appeal Upholds Troy Wamala’s 12-Year Sentence for Mowzey Radio’s Death

The Court of Appeal has upheld the 12-year and three-month prison sentence handed to Godfrey Wamala, popularly known as Troy, for the manslaughter of celebrated Ugandan musician Mowzey Radio.

A panel of three justices—Christopher Gashirabake, Dr. Asa Mugenyi, and John Mike Musisi—delivered the ruling, stating that the trial court had properly evaluated the evidence before reaching its verdict. They found no merit in Wamala’s appeal, which challenged both his conviction and the severity of the sentence.

Wamala had initially been sentenced to 14 years in prison, but the sentence was reduced to 12 years and three months after subtracting the time he had already spent in remand.

In its decision, the appellate court affirmed that the prosecution presented strong, credible evidence. The justices specifically pointed to the consistent and reliable testimonies of key witnesses—Pamela Musimire and music producer Washington—both of whom placed Wamala at the scene and identified him as the person who assaulted Mowzey Radio, leading to his fatal injuries.

The ruling brings a firm legal conclusion to one of Uganda’s most high-profile criminal cases in the entertainment industry.
