Deputy Speaker Tayebwa meets Manchester United’s Andre Onana

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa and his son had a memorable encounter with Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana during the player’s visit to Uganda ahead of Cameroon’s AFCON 2025 qualifier match against Kenya.

As a devoted Manchester United fan, Tayebwa expressed his excitement about witnessing an African player thrive at one of the world’s most renowned clubs. He shared his pride in seeing Onana succeed and highlighted the importance of supporting African athletes in their professional journeys.

In a light-hearted moment, Tayebwa humorously mentioned looking into whether Onana has any Ugandan roots, referencing the cultural connections between Uganda’s Bakiga people and Cameroon.

He also shared that Onana had invited him and his son to watch a live match at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s home ground, which Tayebwa welcomed with great enthusiasm.

Onana is in Uganda as part of the Cameroon national team’s preparations for their AFCON qualifier at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
