Driver Fined Shs600,000 for Attempting to Hit Traffic Officer

A Subaru driver who was recorded on CCTV trying to hit a traffic police officer at the Jinja Road traffic light intersection was fined Shs600,000 on Wednesday after admitting to careless driving.

Isaac Mukwaya, a 35-year-old psychologist from Mutungo, Nakawa Division in Kampala, chose a plea bargain, accepting guilt for a reduced sentence instead of a full trial.

Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi ruled that Mukwaya would face six months in Luzira Prison if he failed to pay the fine.

Prosecutor Ivan Kyazze stated that on June 12, 2023, Mukwaya drove a Subaru Forester (UAZ 515C) without regard for other road users at the Lyca Mobile Company parking lot in Kampala.

The state also accused Mukwaya of ignoring a signal to stop from Police Officer Katongole Jotham at the Jinja Road traffic lights on the Kampala-Jinja Highway while the officer was on duty.
