Five tourists are recovering at Anaka General Hospital in Nwoya District, Northern Uganda, following a road accident on Saturday evening, June 22. The vehicle they were traveling in crashed, resulting in injuries.
The injured include three American women and two Ugandans. The police have identified them as Emily Loper, 27, an American who sustained a deep cut on her right thigh; Nasozi Jenifer, 52, a Ugandan with a minor injury; Ott Hillary Lodges, 48, an American with a cut on her right elbow; Clayton Lopelo, 24, an American with a fractured right clavicle; and Claris Mwesigwa, a Ugandan with minor injuries.
The crash occurred around 4 PM in Latoro Village, Got Apwoyo Sub County. The Toyota Hiace, registration number UBL 104F, was transporting the group from Murchison Falls National Game Park back to Kampala when it hit a pothole and overturned.
Aswa West Police spokesperson David Ongom Mudong confirmed the incident on June 23. He stated that the five injured individuals are being treated at Anaka General Hospital, while the driver of the vehicle is currently missing.
The vehicle has been towed to Nwoya Central Police Station for inspection. The police have urged the driver to come forward for statement recording to assist in the investigation.
The crash has been attributed to reckless driving.
