Four killed in Luweero as Truck Crashes Into Taxi

A tragic accident claimed the lives of four people and left six others seriously injured when a reversing truck collided with a taxi along the Kampala-Gulu Highway in Luwero District early Monday morning.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. at Nakazzi Village in Luwero Town Council. Among the deceased was 43-year-old Moses Kitata, the taxi driver, who was a resident of Wobulenzi Town Council in Luwero District. The identities of the other victims had not been confirmed as of Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities are currently searching for the driver of the truck involved in the crash, which reportedly struck the Toyota Hiace taxi on the driver’s side. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Luwero Hospital mortuary for postmortem, while the injured are receiving treatment at the same facility.

Police responded promptly to the scene, registering a case of a fatal accident, documenting the incident, and collecting statements from witnesses. The damaged taxi was towed to Luwero Central Police Station for further investigation, though the exact cause of the accident has not yet been disclosed.

According to the 2023 annual police crime report, approximately 25 people are either murdered or killed in road crashes daily in Uganda.
