Police have detained four teachers for allegedly possessing and distributing counterfeit Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers online without authorization.
The suspects include Bakashaba Vincent from Kimongole Primary School in Isingiro, Muheki Vincent from Vision Primary School in Ibanda, Pabeku Albert from Stoneridge Primary School in Kira, and Oyet Hosea from Dignatory Junior School in Rukungiri.
The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) reports that these individuals were distributing fake PLE papers on social media platforms, allegedly charging up to 750,000 Ugandan Shillings per set of the four fabricated papers.
The teachers are currently held in police custody and are scheduled to appear in court for a plea hearing on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Under Section 25 of the UNEB Act, CAP 259, unauthorized possession or attempted possession of examination materials constitutes a criminal offense. Those convicted may face a fine of up to one thousand currency points (20 million Ugandan Shillings) or imprisonment for up to five years, or both. This regulation applies to both physical and electronic forms of examination content, including its online distribution.
Meanwhile, candidates are set to begin their PLE exams on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
