Paris organisers have faced a storm of criticism after Italian Angela Carini abandoned her contest with Imane Khelif, who previously failed two sex tests, after 46 seconds. Lisa Nandy, the Culture Secretary, said she will be speaking to sporting bodies about “inclusion, fairness and safety”.
Nandy’s comments came as Lin Yu-ting, one of the boxers at the centre of the gender row at the Olympics, won her opening bout in the women’s featherweight category by outpointing Sitora Turdibekova.
Robert Jenrick would resurrect Rwanda scheme
Robert Jenrick has confirmed he would look to resurrect the Rwanda migrant deportation plan if he wins the Tory leadership race. Mr Jenrick launched his campaign with a speech in Newark this afternoon and said he would “hope to bring it back” if he wins power at the next general election.
Elsewhere, Kwasi Kwarteng, a former chancellor, said it was a “shame” and “disappointing” that Suella Braverman had opted not to enter the race.
