The National Unity Platform (NUP) has unveiled the official list of its flagbearers who will contest for parliamentary seats in the 2026 general elections. The names were released by the party’s Election Management Committee, chaired by Harriet Chemutai, and published across NUP’s official platforms.
The announcement has shaken the political scene as a number of well-known members of parliament were left out. Party insiders say this reshuffle shows a deliberate attempt by NUP to bring in fresh energy and reposition itself ahead of the next polls.
Among those who failed to secure the party ticket are prominent legislators such as Medard Ssegona, Francis Katongole Katabazi, Allan Ssewanyana, Joyce Bagala, Paul Nsubuga, Fred Ssimbwa, Aloysius Mukasa, and Derrick Nyeko. Their exclusion has been described by many as one of the boldest moves by NUP since its formation.
The decision signals a shift in strategy, with the party betting on new figures to champion its red banner in 2026. Political observers note that while the move may cause discontent among those dropped, it also opens the door for new leaders to emerge and strengthen NUP’s position on the national stage.
