Gen Muhoozi Decorates Newly Promoted UPDF Officers, Emphasizes New Responsibilities

Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, decorates Brig Gen Sserunkuma with their new rank insignia during a promotion ceremony at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Mbuya, Kampala. Gen Muhoozi commended the newly promoted officers for their dedication and contribution to national defence, urging them to continue serving with loyalty and dedication.

KAMPALA, UGANDA – Gen Muhoozi Keinerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, has decorated five newly promoted Brigadier Generals and eighteen Colonels of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters in Mbuya.

“The journey to this pinnacle has been marked by hard work, sacrifice, and commitment. Your promotion is not only a recognition of your past achievements but also a vote of confidence in your potential to continue to lead in the country,” Gen Muhoozi said.

He reminded the officers of the responsibilities and expectations that come with their new ranks, saying, “As you take upon your new rank and role, you not only carry the weight of greatness of the military but also the unwavering support and respect of your colleagues, subordinates, and family. The nation looks up to you and expects you to continue to serve with dedication.”

Brig Gen Wilberforce Sserunkuma, Deputy Commander 3 Infantry Division, spoke on behalf of the promoted officers, expressing gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Commander-in-Chief, and UPDF leadership for the promotions. “We are grateful for the trust and confidence placed in us, and we pledge to continue serving with loyalty and dedication,” he said.

Brig Gen Sserunkuma also acknowledged the support and encouragement from their families, recognizing the time spent away from home due to operations, training, and deployments. “We couldn’t have made it without the support of our families, and we appreciate their sacrifices,” he added.

The ceremony was attended by senior UPDF officials, including Lt Gen Sam Okiding, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces; Lt Gen Charles Okidi, Commander UPDF-Air Force; Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Commander Land Force; Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Joint Staff; and Ms. Edith Butuuro, Under Secretary for Finance and Administration.

The promotions and decorations underscore the UPDF’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding exceptional leadership and service, as the military continues to play a vital role in maintaining national security and stability.
