The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has contributed UGX 300 million from his personal official allowances to support major upgrades at Bombo Barracks Nursery and Primary School. The donation will fund the construction of a new classroom block and the renovation of worn-out structures at the school.
The cheque was delivered by Gen Kainerugaba’s Military Assistant, Col Christopher Muwumba, during a brief ceremony attended by school administrators, officers from the barracks, and officials from the education department. Col Muwumba said the contribution reflects the CDF’s dedication to improving welfare within the forces, particularly in areas that directly affect soldiers and their families.
“This money has been personally set aside by the CDF from his official allowances. He is committed to using these funds for public good and to address the needs of communities served by the UPDF,” Col Muwumba said while handing over the cheque.
For years, Bombo Barracks Nursery and Primary School has struggled with overcrowded classrooms, outdated structures, and limited learning space. The planned new classroom block is expected to ease congestion and enhance the learning environment for both the children of soldiers and learners from neighbouring communities.
School leaders welcomed the support, calling it timely and transformative. They noted that several buildings require urgent repair and that the school’s enrolment has exceeded the available facilities. According to the headteacher, the renovation works will include roofing improvements, flooring upgrades, and enhancements to sanitation facilities to ensure a safer and more conducive environment for learners.
The initiative is the first project under Gen Kainerugaba’s pledge to channel his official allowances toward development initiatives. His team indicated that additional projects will follow, focusing on education, healthcare, and welfare programs within military communities across the country.
Construction and renovation works are expected to begin soon, pending final technical assessments.
