Lira City Principal Education Officer, Dr. Jasper Abura, has died following a motor crash on Friday morning along the Lira-Soroti highway.
Police and eyewitnesses reported that Dr. Abura was killed after the car he was driving collided with an unidentified truck at Adwila Village in Amac Sub-county around 1 am. The crash resulted in his death on the spot, while two other occupants of the vehicle, Emmanuel Komakech, the Town Clerk of Lira City West Division, and Jacob Okello, the driver, sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities are investigating the incident and working to impound the truck and arrest its driver.
Dr. Abura’s death occurred just four months after a similar accident claimed the life of Lira City Town Clerk, Theopilus Tibihika, whose vehicle overturned along the Lira-Apac Road in May.
