Gunmen Kill Security Guard at MTN Service Centre

Two private security guards have been detained following the fatal shooting of a colleague at an MTN Service Centre in Buwenge, Jinja District.

John Ssabagabo, 20, and Patrick Obbo, 40, both employed by Wolves Security, were on duty at the MTN location when the incident unfolded. Police took the two into custody to assist in the investigation.

The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, when two unidentified gunmen attacked the guards at the MTN Service Centre. Calvin Abia, a security guard from Ultimate Security, was fatally shot during the confrontation.

Reports indicate that Abia, who was assigned to EV Assets Management Company Limited, had left his post to check on Ssabagabo, a former colleague from Wolves Security in Jinja City. During the attack, Abia was struck by a single bullet to the head. His body has been taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem.

At the scene, police recovered a cartridge case, which has been submitted for forensic analysis. A sniffer dog was deployed to assist in evidence collection, and authorities have launched a search for the gunmen and the SAR rifle used in the attack.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of security personnel and the adequacy of protective measures in place. Police are urging the public to provide any information that might assist in locating the suspects and have assured confidentiality for those who come forward.
