Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Human Resource Managers Association of Uganda (HRMAU) has launched its Annual Sports Gala intending to address lifestyle diseases at workplaces.
The event which is one of the activities to celebrate 25 years of the Association will bring together more than 1,500 Human Resource Managers of different Organizations, departments, and companies for a day of sports, wellness activities, and community service as part of their corporate social responsibilities.
According to HRMAU President Ronald Bossa, this year’s theme, “Competitive Health Choices for Better Work Performance,’ highlights the importance of prioritizing health and wellness in the workplace.
While addressing Journalists on Thursday in Kampala, Bossa said the Gala will take place at Makerere University Business School on August 31st, 2024.
Bossa to everybody to participate in promoting workout exercises at workplaces saying it can improve productivity, employee morale, and retention.
He said the event features athletics, games like chess, volleyball, and netball among others, as well as a blood donation drive in partnership with Nakasero Blood Bank.
Bossa emphasized the association’s commitment to corporate social responsibility, appealing to the public to donate blood on that day as the country has never had blood excesses.
“This event is not just about sports and wellness; it’s about giving back to the community. We aim to employ the right people, ensure their well-being, and nurture talents, ultimately contributing to a more productive and thriving workforce”, added Bossa.
HRMAU Director of Public Relations and Marketing, Moses Waswa said by joining their Sports Gala, participants will be part of an inspiring initiative promoting a healthy society.
On his part, Clinton Tayebwa Clinton the Blood Donor Recruiter at Nakasero Blood Bank, emphasized the importance of blood donation.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Human Resource Managers Association of Uganda to promote this life-saving cause,” said Tayebwa.
He outlined the eligibility criteria for blood donation, stating, “Individuals above 17 years can donate, provided they do not have asthma. Additionally, female donors should not be menstruating at the time of donation.”
Tayebwa highlighted the urgent need for blood, particularly for mothers and accident victims noting that there are many in hospitals, especially the Mulago National Referral Hospital.
“The demand for blood is high, and we need donations to save lives, “Our efforts in collecting blood don’t just benefit Kampala; we serve the entire country. Every donation counts, and we encourage everyone to participate in this noble cause”, he added.
The event which garnered significant support from sponsors and organizers, including Centenary Bank, Stanbic Bank, Jubilee Insurance, and Antfeet among others. Nakasero Blood Bank and C Care IHK have also pledged to provide complimentary wellness tests and showcase opportunities for a sustainable, ethical, and diverse culture.
