Jaguar Buses Suspended After Deadly Crash Claims 8 Lives

Uganda’s Ministry of Works and Transport has suspended Jaguar bus operations for ten days, starting from September 12. This decision follows a fatal accident on September 1, 2024, along Masaka Road, where one of their buses collided with a Fuso truck, resulting in eight deaths. The bus, traveling from Kampala to Kigali, Rwanda, veered out of its lane during an attempted overtaking maneuver, leading to the crash.

Authorities have stated that during the suspension, Jaguar Bus is required to submit the credentials of all its drivers for verification, present all vehicles for inspection, and provide proof of driver refresher training as mandated by the government. After the submissions are reviewed, a decision will be made regarding the future of the bus company’s operations.

The driver involved in the accident, who had been missing since the crash, appeared at the Ministry of Transport with injuries, seeking to represent the company.

In a related development, the government has given Gateway Bus Company a seven-day ultimatum to present the driver of one of their buses, which was captured in a viral video overtaking dangerously along Kisoro Road. Although the bus’s number plate was not visible, authorities have confirmed it belongs to Gateway Bus Company. Failure to produce the driver may result in legal action against the company.
